About Shelter Me
Shelter Me is an inspiring series that celebrates the human-animal bond with uplifting stories about shelter pets. Shelter Me was created and is produced by Steven Latham. The project also includes a website – ShelterMe.com – which enables anyone to create and share profiles of shelter pets to help increase adoptions. Shelter Me works closely with other animal welfare organizations to organize effective spay-neuter and humane education programs and helps develop and implement life-saving projects directly at animal shelters. Follow ShelterMeTV on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Contact Shelter Me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Steven Latham is an award-winning filmmaker and the producer and director of Shelter Me. He produced and directed a documentary film about solar energy titled, SAVED BY THE SUN, for NOVA/PBS. He produced and directed the feature documentary about the TED Conference, THE FUTURE WE WILL CREATE, with partner Daphne Zuniga. He also created and directed the PBS series, THE LIVING CENTURY, which told the amazing stories of the 20th Century through individuals who were at least 100 years old. He produced this project with Barbra Streisand. Steven was a marketing and studio executive prior to launching his production company.
Steven is an animal lover and proud to share his life with his three shelter dogs: Reba, Blue and Emma. They make him laugh and smile every day. The journey these dogs took to become part of his life was the inspiration for creating the project SHELTER ME. He has made a life-long commitment to help shelter pets find great, loving homes.
About the Petco Foundation
At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $200 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay/neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5.3 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
Bark Avenue Foundation
Bark Avenue Foundation is the official non-profit partner of the PBS series, Shelter Me. Bark Avenue Foundation partners with communities and with other nonprofit organizations, understanding that collaboration is critical to its success. BAF prioritizes spay/neuter funding and programs, to stop the pet overpopulation problem at its source: unintended litters. It also supports pet owners, particularly those who are in at-risk and under-served populations, focused on pet retention and reclamation. BAF’s UPP’s (Unsheltered People and their Pets) program provides support services, partnering with social service providers for the highest impact. BAF’s Humane Education program teaches children in preschool through 5th grade, kindness, empathy and responsibility with a fun, interactive method.
