Cowboys Running Back Sponsors Shelter Adoptions

Running Back surprises adopters

Adopters who showed up at the SPCA of Texas late Monday morning, hoping to take advantage of a $21 adoption event, were met by a special NFL football player who was on hand to see the adopted pets off to their new homes.

Ezekiel Elliott, a running back for the Dallas Cowboys, sponsored the $21 adoption event, held at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas, in honor of his jersey number – which of course, is #21.

On Sunday, the shelter promoted the special adoption event to Facebook followers:

How ‘bout them Cowboys, with a heart of gold! The one and only Ezekiel Elliott, #21 himself, is showing us the money by sponsoring adoptions at the SPCA of Texas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas on October 17th for $21! That’s right all adoptions are just $21 for dogs (including the ones pictured), cats, and small mammals of all ages, and that includes spay, neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations. So the only question we have for you is, are you ready to get up and#RunToTheShelter to meet your future BFF?!

The exceptionally low adoption fee had people lined up to meet a potential new best friend before the doors at the adoption center even opened, reported the Dallas News. Cameras were rolling as new adopters were surprised by the man sponsoring the event – Elliott himself was on hand to greet new adopters, and present them with their new pets.

On Monday afternoon, the shelter updated Facebook followers about the success of the day, and expressed its gratitude to the rookie running back who made the adoption event possible:

We’re beyond humbled by his generosity and because of his sponsorship, 25 animals have found their loving, and forever homes so far today! There is still plenty of time to meet your next BFF so stop by; we’ll be here until 6 p.m.

In the area but missed the $21 adoption event? The shelter is still offering adoption specials for the month of October. The SPCA of Texas “DOGtober” adoption special (in celebration of adopt-a-shelter-dog month) offers 50 percent off all dog and puppy adoptions to encourage the public to “Fall” in love with a new four-legged friend.
