Dog Homeless For Over Two Years After Being Returned To Shelter Four Times

A beautiful dog named Layla has been waiting for a home of her own for far too long at the Porter County Animal Shelter in Valparaiso, Indiana. The seven-year-old boxer mix, who has been at the shelter for over two years, has been let down time and again.

Through no fault of her own, Layla has been adopted and returned four times to the same shelter. The reasons for Layla’s return vary…from her family going through a divorce to moving and not making arrangements which include Layla.

Kelly, an employee at the shelter, explained to Shelter Me why she is working hard to find Layla a loving home:

She’s getting up there in age and I don’t want her to spend her twilight years homeless.

She added:

We are moving into our brand new state of the art shelter in one month and I’m trying everything I can do to not have her make the move. She really is the sweetest dog. One of the primary reasons why I’m trying to get her out asap is because we’ve taken her to the vet and found out that she has arthritis. Over exertion and rainy days it becomes inflamed and hurts but I want to get her off that hard shelter floor.

Layla is a good girl, who deserves a great family. According to the shelter staff, Layla is already housebroken, spayed and she is up-to-date on her shots.

Layla needs to join a home with no cats, and no other female dogs – a meet and greet is also required for homes with a male dog (she can be a bit selective with her canine friends). Please share Layla’s information and help her find a family who will be as committed to her as she will undoubtedly be to them.
