Hero Dog Saves Elderly Man From Drowning In Marina

Somebody get this dog a bone! Moe, a golden retriever, is being hailed a hero for his efforts to alert his owner to a life-or-death situation which took place this week at the Pittsburg Marina in California. On Wednesday, in the early morning hours, an elderly man slipped and fell into the water while taking a walk at the marina.

If not for Moe…the man’s frightening situation may not have been discovered. Joe Newman, Moe’s owner, told CBS San Francisco that he was sleeping when he was alerted to the man’s plight by his dog’s barking – after retrieving a flashlight, Newman went to investigate and found the man who had tumbled into the water.

Newman was able to get the man out of the cold water and into his home before calling for an ambulance.

Moe’s good deed was acknowledged by the Pittsburg Police Department on Wednesday – in a Facebook post (viewed over 1.6k times) the department recounted the situation:

Thanks to our friend and hero below whose barking awoke his owner; and when his owner went to see what all the fuss was about, saw the man struggling in the water. The man was able to be helped from the water and was extremely grateful to his new barking buddy!

As for that bone – no worries, officers with the police department paid their hometown hero a visit on Wednesday afternoon to give him some special treats.

Good boy Moe!
