Kenny Chesney Partners With Rescue Group To Save Dogs Displaced By Hurricane

Days ago Kenny Chesney, known for his country music as well as his love of island life, helped relocate dozens of dogs from hurricane impacted islands in the Caribbean to the United States. On Thursday evening, the rescued dogs landed at the Palm Beach International Airport in Florida.

Incoming dogs were welcomed by volunteers with Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR). Laureen Simmons, founder and President of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, told the Palm Beach Post:

“Our pets are like our family and right now our family is hurting . It’s a struggle for people to survive the conditions and nearly impossible for our dogs and cats so we are working with several groups to do the most we can to sustain life during this difficult time.”

Chesney’s Love for Love City foundation has been working to rescue the pets who were left behind when the islands were destroyed and residents were forced to evacuate. He explained his motivation to TODAY:

“If you’ve ever loved a dog or a cat, the idea of these poor animals who can’t find their people, who are struggling to find food, some of whom need medicine, it breaks your heart.

He added:

“To me, if we can’t find their owners, we can find them love. That’s what Love for Love City is all about.”

Terrie Pantusco, of the Virgin Islands, wrote about the rescue effort in a November 16 Facebook post:

“Kenny is amazing to arrange this transport via his organization and his assistant Jill is a rockstar. What a group effort and we were all in tears watching the plane leave.”

She added:

“Paws up on 90 pets headed to the good life. These pets are headed to loving Stateside rescues and onto their furever homes. It’s a beautiful day. I’m so lucky to have been a part of this and so proud to be around such caring people in this community who drop everything for animals!”

Brighter days are ahead for these pups – thanks to compassionate people who are working to make a difference. Learn more about Kenny Chesney’s Love for Love City Foundation here.
