Not long ago, the owners of a sickly pit bull brought their pet to a veterinary hospital in South Carolina to be put down…the dog’s multitude of ailments were too expensive for them to handle, and they had decided that euthanasia was their only option.
Fortunately, Lesslie Animal Hospital‘s Dr. Setzer could see that the seven-year-old dog named Debo was special, and that with the right care, he could be healthy again. Debo’s owners relinquished ownership of their dog and the pit bull’s life was spared.
Dr. Setzer reached out to Carolina Big Hearts Big Barks Rescue group to see if they would be willing to take the ailing dog under their wing. Without hesitation, the rescue agency agreed.
Fast forward to today – Debo is steadily on the road to recovery, though there is still a ways to go. Debo suffered with recurring, untreated ear infections which left his ear canals so damaged that they need to be surgically removed, and he needs to undergo heart worm treatment (as well as still needing to be neutered).
Despite the veterinary treatment which still needs to be done, Debo has made tremendous strides to become the healthy dog that Dr. Setzer knew he could be. In fact, Debo is so much better, that he will soon be ready for adoption!
