Puppy Smuggled Into Hospital To Provide Injured Man Much Needed Distraction

What’s the best prescription for pain relief? Some may say ice, others may insist that it’s medications, but for one Florida man, who is currently recuperating from a devastating foot injury, the Rx is puppy time!

Thanks to a good (and sneaky) friend, 20-year-old Rip Riddle was provided with much-needed comfort (and distraction) from his misery in the form of an adorable nine-week-old Labrador retriever/pit bull mix puppy named Boomer.

According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, Riddle was hospitalized last week after a terrible workplace accident which claimed every toe on his left foot. On Saturday, Riddle’s friend, Austin Colgan, decided to sneak in his puppy to help distract Riddle from his pain.

Colgan managed to sneak the pup into the hospital in a backpack – he told Riddle, “here’s something to comfort you. I know you’re having a hard time.” In the midst of the puppy-cuddling session, a nurse walked into the room; Riddle tried to hide the pup under a blanket, but as soon as Boomer barked, the puppy-smuggling gig was busted.

Fortunately, the nurse was a good sport about the situation – her only directive to Riddle’s friends was that Boomer had to go with them when they left.
