Rescued Dog, Who Recently Lost Puppies, Takes Comfort From Stuffed Animals

A broken heart can be tough to mend, but the people caring for a rescued shelter dog are doing their utmost to make the sad dog happy again. Her name is Kiah (meaning “new beginning”) and she was left wandering alone for weeks before a compassionate good Samaritan picked her up and brought her to Georgia’s Cherokee County Humane Society.

According to the shelter, Kiah’s body provided a glimpse to her difficult past…aside from having been bred multiple times, her teeth were filed down and she was pregnant. A veterinarian determined that, at some point in her life, someone had shot her, and that the puppies she was currently carrying were no longer alive.

Kiah underwent an emergency c-section…though the surgery saved her life, it did not remedy her broken heart. To help lift Kiah’s spirits, her foster mom, Caroline Claffey, surrounded her with stuffed animals. Claffey posted a video to Facebook showing Kiah snuggling up to her stand-in pups. According to ABC 7 News, the stuffed animals have provided a small measure of comfort, but overall, Kiah’s spirits are still “low.”

A fundraiser has been created to help cover all of Kiah’s veterinary needs. Click here to learn more about how you can help.
