Rookie Firefighter Rescues Elderly Dog Struggling In The Water

Firefighter rescued elderly dog

A rookie firefighter, with Florida’s Miami Beach Fire Rescue, jumped into Biscayne Bay on Thursday to save an elderly dog who was struggling in the water.

Firefighter Emilio Sanchez didn’t hesitate to jump into the bay to rescue the 12-year-old Shar-pei/Rottweiler-mix, and the rescue effort was caught on video.

The video was uploaded to social media and in short order, Sanchez was being hailed a hero as the video hit “viral” status, being shared widely on Facebook, Twitter and on multiple news outlets.

Sanchez, who has been surprised by the outpouring of attention, is humble about his good deed – he is quoted on WSVN News:

“Any life is important in the eyes of the fire department here. It’s all in the line of duty.”

The senior dog named “Junior,” has since been reunited with his grateful owner Jose Ruiz, who stated,“What a baby. He is family. He is my baby. I consider him my son.”
