In NYC, fashion center of the universe, rescue is the new black!  And with the help of some local Hometown Heroes, including police officers, firefighters, EMT’s, active military and veterans community leaders, Mr. Bones & Co.’s fourth annual Rescue the Runway: NYC was a huge success!

Each of the three participating shelters and rescue groups, Animal Haven, Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue and Thank Dog Rescue, received a $1,000 donation, and some of the dogs who took to the runway won their personal best in show – a new home!

Rescue the Runway is the signature benefit event for Mr. Bones & Co (MBC), an all-volunteer animal welfare registered non-profit.  MBC, who rescues dogs from NY shelters, also assists other local rescue groups with adoption support and fundraising.

You can see how much fun the entire rescue community has at this event.   Marisa Grimshaw, Co-Executive Director of Mr. Bones & Co. tells ShelterMe.tv, that some of the runway models are repeat customers.

Many of our Hometown Heroes have participated each year, but we do also open it up to submissions so our adopters, fosters, fans and friends can suggest people they consider to be Hometown Heroes and we make selections based on that.

Great idea that perhaps could be ‘adopted’ (!) by other rescues around the country.

Great idea! How many dogs roughly does the organization help, and how many are adopted after this “show”?

    1. Lisa Blanck says:

Mr. Bones & Co. have approximately 15 dogs in their organization most of the time, dogs who face extra challenges, whether they are physical, emotional or behavioral. They work intensely with each dog to bring them back from the brink, and then adopt them out to homes that have been thoroughly vetted. According to Marisa, a few were adopted after the show, many at the rescues who participated are still available at each of the three rescues.
