Surf Dog Hits Milestone Fundraising Goal For Charities

Ricochet, a nearly nine-year-old golden retriever who is best known for being a world famous “SURFice” dog, hit a fundraising milestone as 2016 drew to a close. Ricochet and her supporters rang in the New Year by celebrating the receipt of a half million dollars in donations which were raised for over 250 causes supporting both humans and animals.

Though Ricochet does the paws-on work with special needs kids, disabled people and wounded warriors (including veterans with PTSD), it was her supporters who brought the hearty half million fundraiser milestone to fruition. Accolades for Ricochet’s many supporters were shared in a press release:

Reaching this major milestone demonstrates how much Ricochet’s worldwide community supports her efforts.  She sincerely thanks her individual donors, social media followers, corporate sponsors and members of the media for their continued support.

Ricochet began raising awareness (and funds for both human and animal causes) back in 2009. This special dog’s talent was revealed when she made an independent decision to jump on a surfboard with Patrick Ivison, a quadriplegic surfer – she quickly became the only SURFice dog® on the planet who worked to create unique programs, initiatives and surf therapy experiences for individuals with special needs.

Ricochet left behind her days of surf dog contests, focusing instead on adaptive surfing. In a press release, her ability to make profound connections with people was explained:

She has a powerful ability to make immediate, deep, heart-to-heart connections with the individuals she interacts with. She intuitively and empathically alerts to their emotional and physical changes which allows for profound paws-on healing interventions. She balances boards… and lives!

On January 25, Ricochet will be celebrating her 9th birthday. She has also been cast as one of the dogs in the upcoming IMAX film, Superpower Dogs. A new pup may be on the surfing scene soon – according to a release, Ricochet is currently assisting a golden/Labrador retriever mix named Encore (Cori) with training. At this point in time, it is unknown if Cori will follow in Ricochet’s surfing “paw steps” or if she will find another way to “paw it forward.”

Ricochet is a world famous, award-winning surfing dog who surfs for fun, wins surf dog contests & most importantly… SURFS WITH PURPOSE! She surfs solo, with children, adults, pros, celebrities, other dogs, a goat & even Rob Machado!

She is a certified and registered therapy dog who lives a lifestyle of helping others by pawing it forward while raising funds and awareness for human/animal causes. Her life story is penned in a book called Ricochet: Riding a Wave of Hope with the Dog Who Inspires Millions. Available on Amazon at
She has gone from service dog to SURFice dog and back again! She holds the titles of AKC Therapy Dog Distinguished (THDD), American Humane Association Hero Dog, ASPCA Dog of the Year, AKC Award for Canine Excellence, Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Surf Dog Hall of Fame, International Surfing Museums Surf Dog Walk of Fame, San Diego Humane Society Animal Compassion Award, and many more that can be found on her website at
